UVCL - Marrenon Vignobles en Luberon, ORCA V, 2006 Cotes du Ventoux (La Tour D'Aigues, France) - For a $20 French bottle with an exotic name and apparent pedigree I expected more. Standard Rhone red blend. 5 out of 10 for lower average.
Mas de Libian, Bout d'Zan, 2008 (Cotes du Rhone, France) - A $15 sample which although worth the price doesn't stand out in any particular way from other Rhones. 5 out of 10 or lower average.
The Ruins, 2009 (South Africa) - Hey despite being a $10-$15 range screwcap red from South Africa I actually thought this was pretty good. Bold fruit forward - it's organic and 54% Syrah, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon. Would hold it's own with most bold New World reds. 6 out of 10 for upper average.
Coltibuono, Chiant Classico, 2008 (Italy) - The red I bought on vacation in Provincetown. For $20 and from a cool store I expected to be blown away, but ultimately it was just an average 5 out of 10 Chianti. The bright side was it didn't give me a hangover.
