Batch Review 12/12/10

Scoring 7 out of 10 for above average:

Rosenblum, Zinfndel, Maggie's Reserve, 2005 (Sonoma Valley, California) - Another supposed super buy recommended by a store, this cost me $15 but claimed to be worth $30. A spicy but balanced Zin. Nancy didn't like it but I still saw the value.

Scoring 6 out of 10 for upper average:

Cupcake Vineyards, Prosecco (Italy) - Another quality entry by cupcake. Zesty apple.

Barros, Porto, Lagrima, Branco Muito Dolce (Portugal) - I naively didn't realize this was white when I bought it. Decent sweet flavor but a bit of an alcohol burn.

Scoring 5 out of 10 for lower average:

Ballatore, Spumante Rosso (California) - Their white is a reguar at our home (for Nancy). The rose is a decent sweet wine just as good.

Mark West, Chardonnay, 2008 (Central Coast, California) - This has all the richness yet somehow the flavor was off to me.

Arbor Mist, Tropical Fruits Chardonnay (New York) - Yeah, this is a cheap wine cooler of a wine yet Nancy and I both liked it. We don't tast tropical though, we mainly taste peach.

Casella Wines, Yellow Tail, Bubbles (Australia) - It's a cheap mediocre white. The only thing unique is the bottle closure which is black plastic and peals off in a strip kind of like a milk jug and has a red dot in the middle you can compress to replace the cap after opening. Seemed OK but I'm not confident it's airtight to keep the bubbles.

Big House White, 2009 (California) - Decent but nothing special.

Vasco da Gama, 2004 (Dao, Portugal) - A very cheap Portuguese red, and tastes like it.

Scoring 4 out of 10 for below average:

Main Street Winer, Sauvignon Blanc, 2007 (Santa Barbara County, California) - Very weak. Not even worth the $10. Dressed up cheap wine.
